FCT: Keida Community Seeks Construction Of Dilapidated Road

Old Kutunku, Phase Two, Keida Road in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT has been in existence for about 30 years now.

With 547 registered houses and about a two million population, the community plays host to farmers, traders, businessmen, and women as well as civil servants, among others.

It is one of the communities that has been lacking basic social amenities like schools, healthcare facilities, and most especially road infrastructure.

This has over the years been affecting the socioeconomic activities of residents of the community.

As Nigeria prepares to celebrate another democracy day, residents of the community told Correspondent Mathew Ayoola that they have not benefitted from the dividends of democracy.

One essential amenity that is currently lacking in the community is the major access road to the community.

The five kilometres road, which is currently not motorable, serves as a link between Keida to Lapai in Niger State.

One of the Palace Men and resident of the community, Retired Reverend Simon Danjuma Kaura said the dilapidated condition of the major road in the community has resulted to various okada accidents where series of serious injuries had been sustained by victims.

Retired Reverend Kaura therefore appealed to the Minister of FCT to come to their aid just as he has been doing in other communities that have benefited from his road infrastructural projects.

On their part, A Civil Servant, Mr Patrick Oseiji, A Business Man, Mr James Ndachaba and a Trader, Mrs Agnes Christopher expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of the road and called for urgent government’s intervention.

According to them, the rosd when constructed, d would boost economic activities and improve the well-being of residents of the community.

Also speaking, the Mai Angwar of Keida Road, Phase Two, Chief Bitrus Mohammed Baba who said efforts had been made to reach out to the Gwagwalada Area Council Authority on their challenges explained that apart from the problem of dilapidated roads, the community also lack other social amenities such as schools, healthcare facilities and pipe borne water.

“We also don’t have health facilities in this community, even school we don’t have but we have taken steps by informing Gwagwalada Area Council Authority believing that the issue will be addressed but however, we thank the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Abu Giri for giving us solar powered street lights recently”.

While commending the Minister of FCT, Mr Nyeson Wike, for his developmental projects, Chief Bitrus Baba appealed to him to come to their aid in the community.

It is hoped that necessary steps will be taken towards the construction of the dilapidated Old Kutunku, Phase Two, Keida Road in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT towards improving the socioeconomic activities of residents of the community.
