President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to address a Joint Session of the National Assembly this Thursday in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
A statement by the Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Mr Akintunde Rotimi, says the schedule for the special joint sitting was formally conveyed to members via an internal memorandum issued by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr Yahaya Danzaria.
Mr Rotimi notes that preliminary proceedings are expected to commence at 11:00 a.m., ahead of the arrival of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at 12:00 noon.
The House Spokesperson explains that the theme for this year’s celebration is: “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development,” with President Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour, who will deliver a presidential address to the Joint Sitting.
According to Rotimi, the programme will also feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of national honours on select legislators by Mr. President.
The House of Representatives urges Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Democracy Day as a time for reflection, renewed patriotism, and commitment to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united nation.
