The Director General of the Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement, RHGM, Ambassador Isaac Chigozie Udeh has expressed shock over the demise of the former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mohammed Uwais.
A condolence message personally signed by him in Abuja, praises the late jurist for his principled leadership and lasting contribution to the country’s judicial and democratic development.
“His principled and visionary leadership as Chief Justice of Nigeria not only advanced the cause of justice but also set a benchmark for generations of legal minds to follow” Amb Udeh notes.
It also emphasizes that his leadership set a lasting example for future generations of legal professionals.
According to the statement, his death is a monumental loss to the nation, his family, and the judiciary.
The statement says he will be profoundly remembered for the key recommendations of his report, which advocates sweeping reforms in Nigeria’s electoral system, including the independence of the electoral body and prosecution of electoral offenders.
“His demise is a monumental loss, not only to his beloved family and the legal community, but to Nigeria as a whole – a country he served with uncommon dedication and grace throughout his distinguished career” Ambassador Udeh states.
Justice Uwais, who served as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1995 to 2006, was also the head of the Presidential Electoral Reform Committee set up by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, a national assignment that culminated in the much-talked-about ‘Uwais Report’ on electoral reforms.
“On behalf of the entire Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and indeed the entire nation and may God rest his soul” Ambassador Udeh adds.
