The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s resolve to restore lasting peace and stability across the North East.
He stated this during an operational tour of the theatre by Defence Correspondents from the Defence Headquarters led by the Deputy Director Defence Media Operations Brigadier General Mohammed Abu-Mawashi .
The Theatre Commander stated that ongoing military operations, remain focused on eliminating residual security threats and facilitating the safe return of displaced communities.
This assurance follows a significant operational success in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, where troops of the Forward Operating Base FOB in Molai discovered and safely diffused six large 105mm bombs.
The explosives, planted by insurgents along the Kumala route leading to Sambisa Forest, were uncovered during a well-coordinated ambush operation aimed at intercepting fleeing terrorists.
Acting Commander of the FOB, Major Darush Yusuf, described the recovery as a major breakthrough in efforts to clear the area of explosive remnants of war and secure key movement corridors.
“Our Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have remained alert and efficient. This operation underscores the growing tactical capacity of our troops,” he said.
Major Yusuf attributed the successful outcome to recent visits by the Chief of Army Staff and other senior military leaders, noting that renewed morale, improved logistics, and welfare support have significantly enhanced field performance.
“The backing from Army Headquarters has boosted our confidence and sharpened our operational focus,” he added.
He also acknowledged the support of local residents, noting that military presence has enabled farmers to return to their farmlands during the rainy season under secured conditions.
He explained that Molai Road, once under insurgent control in 2019, has now been stabilized through sustained operations and community engagement.
At Tungushe FOB, the Commanding Officer of the 212 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Christian Okupe, emphasized that protecting civilian lives, particularly in farming communities like Tungushe is a key priority.
He noted that the military’s presence has reassured residents and encouraged them to resume their normal livelihoods.
“Effective community cooperation remains central to our mission,” Lt.-Col. Okupe said. “Timely information from residents continues to enhance our operational planning and execution.”
He commended the Civilian Joint Task Force CJTF for their collaboration during routine patrols and joint security operations.
Chairman of the Tungushe community, Malam Baba Musa, who lauded the military’s efforts in restoring peace and security in the area, appealed to the Federal Government for urgent intervention to provide clean water and other essential services to support resettled populations.
As the military continues its stabilization operations across the North East, authorities are urging increased public cooperation through information sharing and civic engagement.
The military also reiterated its commitment to rebuilding trust, securing communities, and paving the way for sustainable peace in the region.
