Two members of the house of representatives have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The members are Festus Akingbaso representing Idanre Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo State who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while Ngozi Okoli, representing Oshimili/Aniocha federal constituency of Delta State, left the Labour Party.
The Speaker of the house, Dr Abbas Tajudeen announced their defection during a plenary session.
Okoli in a letter read by the Speaker, explained that he took the decision to join the APC after extensive consultation with his political associates and constituents in Delta state.
The lawmaker argued that he had to join the APC to attract benefits closer to his constituents in Delta State.
While Mr Akingbaso, cited internal conflicts within the opposition peoples democratic party (PDP) as a reason for his decision.
Raising point of order, the House Minority leader, Kingsley Chinda cautioned the lawmakers of the Green Chamber to ensure strict adherence to relevant constitutional provisions before joining another political party.
