As Nigeria marks the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State has called on government at all levels, parents, and stakeholders to prioritize the welfare, education, and protection of Nigerian children.
Chairperson of NAWOJ,Kogi State Chapter, Comrade Stella Edoka made the call in a statement in Lokoja to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day.
Comrade Edoka emphasized the need for deliberate and collective efforts to address issues such as child abuse, child labor, out-of-school children, and all forms of violence against minors.
ccording to her, the children’s day was not just a date on the calendar but a moment of reflection on the rights, welfare and safety of the nation’s future leaders.
The NAWOJ Chairperson also used the occasion to call on parents and guardians to instill values of discipline, empathy, and hard work in their wards while urging the government to implement policies that guarantee children’s rights and wellbeing.
Comrade Edoka asserted that it was imperative for the society to reaffirm commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for the children to grow, learn and thrive without fear or discrimination.
She further appealed to media professionals to continue using their platforms to advocate for children’s rights and bring attention to issues affecting young people in the country.
Comrade Edoka congratulated all Nigerian children on the occasion of this year’s celebration, encouraging them to remain hopeful, courageous, and focused on their dreams.
