A Sokoto Businessman has received the sum of N20m as compensation from the DSS.
This is contained in a statement by the Service in Abuja.
According to the statement, the man was accidentally shot in 2016 during a pre-dawn raid in Jos, Plateau State, after being mistaken for a suspected gunrunner with a similar name.
The statement says the actual suspect was later apprehended, the victim suffered lasting injuries.
According to the statement, years later, in 2018, he sued the DSS and won a ₦10 million compensation order from a Federal High Court in Bauchi.
However, the statement says it wasn’t until March 2025 that the current DSS Director-General, Mr. Tosin Ajayi, approved the payment and added another ₦10 million for the delay.
The DG also directed that the businessman be granted full access to its hospital in Abuja for continuous, free medical care.
A DSS source howevr confirmed that the victim arrived at the hospital “a few days ago” and is receiving full VIP treatment, including 24/7 care, diagnostic tests, therapy, and meals free of charge.
“This is the third DG since the case began. For the new DG to not only pay the debt but also add more money and medical care shows true compassion and respect for the law,” the source said.
