The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to motorists in Abuja, declaring that anyone caught driving against traffic or violating traffic signals will be prosecuted in a Mobile Court and face strict penalties.
This warning follows the rising concerns over the increasing cases of traffic infractions, particularly one-way driving and red light violations.
In a statement released by the FCT Transportation Secretariat, the Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Abdulateef Bello, emphasized that such offences are punishable under the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023, specifically Regulation 18, Nos. 172-173.
“The FCT Transportation Secretariat has observed with concern the alarming rate at which motorists drive against traffic and violate traffic lights within the Federal Capital City”.
“The motoring public is hereby advised that henceforth, anyone caught committing these offences will have their vehicles impounded and be arraigned before a Mobile Court for prosecution”.
The move aims to deter reckless driving, enhance road safety, and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations across the territory.
The FCTA urges all motorists to obey traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies to maintain order on the roads.
