Wike, FCTA- EXCO Approve More Projects For Abuja’s Development

Background

The 14th Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has approved numerous projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, public safety, waste and environmental management across Abuja.

The meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Dr Nyesom Wike, approved a total of 9 critical projects, marking another milestone in the administration’s urban development drive.

Briefing Journalists shortly after the meeting, the FCTA Chief of Staff, Dr Chidi Amadi who noted that the approved memos are geared towards deepening infrastructural growth and improving the overall quality of life in the FCT, said environmental and waste management got a N2.6 billion naira boost.

The Chief of Staff reinforced the Wike led Administration’s commitment to infrastructural advancement, security, and environmental sustainability in Abuja.

Contributing, the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) Chief Felix Obuah, said the Council secured the EXCO’s approval for maintenance and extension of service contracts for the Wupa Basic Sewage Treatment Plant, Apo Erector and continuation of solid waste collection and management services across 40 locations in the FCT.

According to the AMMC Coordinator, the total value of these approvals is approximately N2.6 billion, aimed at ensuring the environmental integrity and sanitation of the capital city.

On his part, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, said approval was equally given for upgrading obsolete street lights along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway.

He noted that the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway(Ring Road 1), a 14-kilometer, 10-lane highway upgrade will incorporate a hybrid lighting system to improve nighttime visibility and security.

He also listed other projects approved to include:Construction of a Magistrate Court at Jabi, replacing a previously proposed site in Maitama, Provision of Pedestrian Access Controls at Interchanges.

He said twelve new locations have been identified for fencing and walkway construction to deter illegal activities and improve the aesthetic appeal of the interchanges.

He also said the Durumi District Roads and Drainage: A 1.7-kilometer road network project around the Apostolic Church in Durumi received the green light.

According to him, access Infrastructure in Mabushi District also received a boost, including road construction, underground drainage, and street lighting for Kez Udezue Street, renovation of DSS Headquarters, and emergency Erosion Control on Water Supply Pipeline.
