todayMay 17, 2025

Background

In a renewed effort to combat insecurity and provide safe access to farmlands ahead of the rainy season, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have intensified military operations across all regions of the country.

According to a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, in Abuja, this drive aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to ensure national food security and restore peace in rural communities.

The statement noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, remains resolute in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and safeguarding citizens from all threats.

It also stated that troops recorded major operational successes, including the destruction of terrorist enclaves, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the arrest of key informants and logistics suppliers.

The statement further explained that troops of Operation DELTA SAFE in the Niger Delta thwarted illegal oil activities worth over N103.9 million, with troops recovering 68,875 litres of stolen crude oil, 31,166 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil and 2,250 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene.

General Kangye reaffirmed the military’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting human rights during operations, in accordance with international best practices.

He called on law-abiding Nigerians to go about their daily activities without fear and urged the public to support ongoing efforts by providing credible information to security agencies.
