Three members of the House of Representatives have announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC, during plenary.
Oluwole Oke from Obokun/Oriade, Osun State left the Peoples Democratic Party PDP for the APC.
While Kabiru Rurum from Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya, and Sani Rogo from Karaye/Rogo, both in Kano State defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.
Their defections were announced by Speaker Dr Abbas Tajudeen.
In his letter, Oke sought permission for APC leaders, led by Senator Ajibola Basiru, to attend a cross-capital session.
The NNPP lawmakers cited leadership crises and factional disputes in their party, invoking Section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution to justify their move.
However, Minority Whip Ali Isa Jesse raised a point of order, urging the Speaker to declare their seats vacant, citing constitutional provisions against defection without a valid division in the original party.
