The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has called for stronger collaboration between the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly to tackle pressing national challenges.
Speaking at the inaugural National Policy Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda of the House of Representatives, organized by the Policy and Advocacy Centre PLAC, UK Aid and the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, NALTF,
Ogundoyin emphasized the need for synergy between federal and state lawmakers to address issues such as security, youth unemployment, and economic development.
“We must enact laws that support proactive, intelligence-driven security measures, strengthen the capacity of our security agencies, and promote community-based policing,” Ogundoyin said.
Ogundoyin, who also doubles as the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, urged lawmakers to create meaningful economic opportunities for youths, including supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), promoting agricultural development, and advancing digital economy and innovation.
The Lawmaker commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, for his visionary leadership in convening the dialogue and for constituting the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security.
He pledged support to the National Assembly in making its efforts impactful at the sub-national level.
“We can build a legislative culture that is proactive, people-focused, and fundamentally rooted in service to our great nation,” Ogundoyin said.
The dialogue brought together lawmakers, government officials, and stakeholders to discuss the legislative agenda and chart a course for the future.
