todayMay 8, 2025

Background

The Police Community Relations Committee PCRC has passed a vote of confidence on the Inspector General of Police IGP, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, describing him as a visionary and exceptional leader committed to repositioning the Nigeria Police Force NPF.

Speaking at the grand finale of the PCRC’s 41st Anniversary celebration held in Abuja, the National Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, commended the IGP for his dynamic leadership and dedication to professionalism and security reforms within the Force.

He called on Egbetokun to remain steadfast and ignore what he termed “armchair critics turned activists,” whose aim is to derail ongoing progress.

“We are extremely proud of IGP Kayode Egbetokun. When a partner is performing well, it is only proper to acknowledge and support them, and that is what we’re doing today. Under his leadership, the narrative of policing in Nigeria is changing for the better.”

Olaniyan, who praised the IGP’s administration, describing it as unparalleled, said his leadership style is second to none.

“The Nigeria Police Force is performing impressively in the fight against crime and insecurity. What the police need is not criticism but the active support and cooperation of citizens. Effective policing thrives on intelligence, and citizens must provide timely information, as criminals live among us, in our cities, towns, and communities,” he added.

Reaffirming PCRC’s unwavering support for the IGP, the Chairman also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of Dr. Egbetokun, assuring that the Committee remains committed to partnering with the Force to restore public confidence and integrity in policing across the country.

Representing the IGP at the event, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Command, CP Ajao Adewale, acknowledged the PCRC’s vital role in enhancing police-community relations.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the IGP’s leadership, to uphold human rights, ensure professionalism, and provide security for all citizens and their property.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Chief of Army Staff COAS, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede is represented by the Director of Civil-Military Relations, Maj. Gen. Remi Fadairo restated the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to overcoming the nation’s security challenges.

He emphasized that such efforts would require strong community support and the provision of timely intelligence on criminal activities.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the PCRC and Force Public Relations Officer FPRO, Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, appealed to citizens to take ownership of national security by providing relevant information to support the work of the police and other law enforcement agencies.
