The Speaker of the House, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen has called for renewed efforts to address security challenges and economic woes plaguing the country.
In his remarks upon resuming plenary after Sallah and Easter recess, Dr Abbas condemned recent attacks on innocent citizens, particularly in Benue and Plateau states, and emphasized the need for increased investment in security intelligence and surveillance technology.
On the economic front, Tajudeen noted the International Monetary Fund’s acknowledgement of Nigeria’s progress in fiscal discipline, but also its call for sustained efforts to curb inflation and bolster external reserves.
He also warned of potential severe flooding in over 30 states during the upcoming rainy season and urged relevant committees to work with the Executive branch to review emergency preparedness.
The Speaker highlighted significant legislative milestones achieved before the break, including the passage of tax reform bills and swift response to political unrest in Rivers State.
The Speaker also outlined the House’s priorities, including constitutional amendment, electoral reform, and legislation on unemployment, poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, and security.
The Speaker announced plans to mark the second anniversary of the 10th House of Representatives with a series of engagements, including public policy dialogue, citizens’ engagement, and media roundtables.
