The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN wants Nigerians to support the ongoing peace initiatives and refrain from actions that can undermine efforts to address the country’s security challenges particularly in the Middle Belt region.
CAN President Most Reverend Daniel Okoh in a statement in Abuja condemned the brutal attacks and persistent violence inflicted on communities in Benue, Gombe and Plateau states where some citizens have endured immense suffering and loss called for open and honest dialogue to end the hostilities.
Most Reverend Daniel Okoh stressed the need for citizens to avoid spreading unverified information that could further deepen divisions.
According to the CAN President, the Association believes that trusted platforms like the Nigerian Inter Religious Council provide the ideal space to raise concerns and work together towards practical and sustainable solutions.
“CAN encourages open and honest dialogue among all stakeholders, both local and international including the United States.”
Most Reverend Daniel Okoh said the Association has also visited some affected areas to express solidarity, offered condolences and distributed relief materials.
“In the days ahead, we will continue with further visits to provide support, comfort and much needed relief to those affected “
He reiterated that the Christain body is dedicated to promoting peace, Unity and mutual understanding across the country.
” We will continue to collaborate with all parties to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all Nigerians regardless of faith or ethnicity.”
