Wike In China For FCT Satellite Towns Water Project

todayMay 2, 2025

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is en route to China as part of efforts to advance the provision of potable water to satellite towns within the FCT.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on his way to China for a series of high-level engagements.

During his visit, Wike is scheduled to hold strategic meetings with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group.

These discussions are a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September last year between the Federal Government and Chinese firms, including the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group.

The agreements aim to improve electricity and water infrastructure in the FCT.

The MoU was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader commitment to improve the living standard of FCT residents through impactful infrastructure projects.

In line with this vision, President Tinubu approved ₦50 billion for water supply in satellite towns across the territory.

As part of this presidential mandate, Wike’s visit to China is focused on ensuring progress on water projects in Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils, which have been prioritized for immediate water infrastructure development.

The Minister is expected to return to Nigeria next week following the conclusion of his engagements.
