FCTA To Barricade Lokogoma Estate Access Road To Avert Flooding

todayApril 30, 2025

Background

As the rainy season sets in, the FCTA Department of Development Control says plans are underway to divert human and vehicular traffic leading to the popular Lokogoma Estate to check incidences of death arising from flood in the area.

The Director, Department of Development Control, FCTA, Mukhtar Galadima who stated this in Abuja, said the FCT administration has set a machinery in motion to ensure no death is recorded as a result of flood in the this rainy season.

While expressing disappointment with recalcitrant developers who continue to build on waterways despite several warnings ,Galadima noted that part of the lasting solution the administration has mapped out for the area is a review of the infrastructural engineering of the Estate.

Galadima said this may lead to the demolition of several structures standing on waterways as well as subsequent reopening of water channels to enable easy flow.

Earlier, the team visited ongoing construction sites around the Usuma dam where it ordered developers to discontinue further construction work until the administration carries out a comprehensive re-assessment of the district layout.

This, according to Galadima, is to ensure that the Usuma dam that supplies potable water to residents of the territory is not contaminated as development spreads around the facility.
