The chairman of the House of Representatives committee overseeing Rivers State, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, has emphasized the National Assembly’s critical role in overseeing the state of emergency declared in the state.
At an interactive session with the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok Ette-Ibas (rtd) in Abuja Prof Ihonvbere cited constitutional provisions that empowers the National Assembly to approve emergency declarations and assume state assembly duties when necessary.
He expressed satisfaction that the Rivers State administrator had finally appeared before the committee after earlier delays.
The committee chairman assured the administrator that the committee would work diligently and fairly to restore stability in Rivers State.
He encouraged the administrator to feel at ease, noting that committee members were selected for their legislative experience and zonal representation.
Prof. Ihonvbere expressed optimism that the meeting would mark the beginning of a collaborative process toward restoring stability in the state.
