Maikalangu’s Alleged Certificate Forgery Case Adjourned To May 23

todayApril 24, 2025

Background

The arraignment of Mr Christopher Maikalangu, the Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, in an alleged certificate forgery, was adjourned to May 23 for Mention at the Dutse Magistrate court in Abuja.

The suit before the Chief Magistrate, Abdullahi Ilela of Court 1, in Dutse magistrate Court could not commence because the first respondent, Mr Christopher Maikalaangu was unavoidably absent in Court based on health grounds.

Counsel to the respondent Ikenna Charles, said a letter dated 24 April, 2025 clearly communicated the Honourable Court that the first defendant will not be on ground based on health issues with his ‘Patient Appointment silp’ attached to the letter from the National Hospital, Abuja.

“Regrettably i am craving the endulgence of your Lordship for an adjournment of this matter to enable the respondent get a proper medical attention before appearing in court”

Counsel to the complainant Job Peter Isreal said they conceded to the prayers of their senior learned colleagues from the bar that the matter be adjourned for proper mention in the interest of justice.

“We are not happy that the copy of the letter was not served before now and the attached document of Patient Appointment Silp is not an authentic medical result. We urge your Lordship that the next adjournment date should be within two weeks”.

In response, Counsel to the respond Ikenna Charles said the document reads National Hospital, Medical records “Patient Appointment Silp dated 3 days from the date of issuance on 22 April 2025 making it very evident that is a medical report and shouldn’t be misunderstood.

He however commended the prosecution counsel to the complainant Job Isreal and the Honourable Court for considering the application for an adjournment adding that the respondent is a law abiding citizen who doesn’t play with the rule of law been the only hope of the common man.

After entertaining arguments from the lead counsels, the Chief Magistrate, Abdullahi Ilela, however, adjourned the matter to 23 April for mention.

The alleged certificate foggery was instituted by one Mr Awwalu Mohammed, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member resident in AMAC.

In the suit number: CR/DUT/324/25 dated March 24, Maikalangu is the first defendant with the complainant Awwalu Mohammed alleging that Maikalangu, on the 8th of Jan 2013, at the FCT Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja, submitted a forged first school leaving certificate from Festival Road Primary School {1983-1989} to the commission.

Mohammed also alleged that the AMAC chairman, on May 8, 2021, submitted a forged first school leaving certificate from LEA Model Science Primary School {1984-1989} to the INEC pre- election matters.
