The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Nyesom Wike, has assured Nigerians that adequate funding has been provided to ensure the timely completion of key infrastructure projects ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-year anniversary.
Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing works, Wike emphasized that prompt and consistent funding has helped maintain momentum on several landmark projects.
He particularly expressed satisfaction with the ongoing transformation of the International Conference Centre and major road networks such as those in Gishiri and the acesss road to the Justices Quarters.
“Frankly speaking, we are very impressed with what we have seen and what is scheduled. The contractors are living up to expectations, and we are doing our part by ensuring prompt payment to avoid any delays.”
“So the quality of jobs seems quite impressive.I am also happy with the National Conference Center.
Those of you who knew how it was and see what it is today will be impressed that yes, that conference center is coming back to what it is supposed to be”.
On fiscal matters, the Minister revealed that the FCT statutory budget for 2025 has been submitted to the National Assembly and will be formally presented on April 29.
Dr Wike who disclosed that 95% of the 2024 budget has already been successfully implemented, clarified that the ongoing projects fall under the extended 2024 budget, valid until June.
“We are operating within the law. The remaining part of the 2024 budget will be used to pay the contractors,” Wike explained.

Addressing concerns about deadlines, Wike affirmed that contractors are on schedule and committed to deliver the job within the stipulated timeframe.
Confirming that ICC will be ready by May this year, Julius Berger’s site manager, Mr. Oliver said that tiling and carpeting works are progressing well, with night shifts introduced to fast-track completion.
Wike further assured residents of the FCT and Nigerians at large that his administration remained focused on delivering quality infrastructure that would improve the aesthetics of Abuja and living standards of residents.
Corroborating, the Acting Executive Secretary FCDA, Mr Richard Dauda, who spoke on the scope of work, said a significant level of progress had been attained in the on going projects penciled down for commissioning by may.
He also noted that the earthworks, culverts were completed on the Nicon bridge axis, the N11 road, N5 roads connecting Jahi district and the Judges Quarters, and the connector road to Woke Soyinka Way, would all be delivered in May this year.
