Reps To Inaugurate Committee For Oversight On Rivers State

Background

The House of Representatives will, on Tuesday, April 15 inaugurate an Ad-Hoc Committee to oversee the implementation of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State

In a statement in Abuja by the Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, the committee will ensure governance in Rivers State remains within constitutional bounds and will be guided by transparency, accountability, and the best interests of the people.

According to the statement, the committee comprises 19 members, including:
Prof. Julius Ihonvbere as Chairman and
Ali Isa J.C.- Deputy Chairman.

Others are Isiaka Ibrahim, Idris Ahmed Wase, Aliyu Muktar Betera, Sada Soli, James Abiodun Faleke, Igariwey Iduma Enwo, Shehu Saleh Rijau, Wole Oke, Akarachi Etinosa Amadi, Patrick Umoh, James Barka, Alex Egbona, Isa Anka, Amos Daniel, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Onuh Onyeche Blessing, Fatima Talba.

Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi will head the committee’s secretariat.

The House of Representatives’ decision underscores its commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring legislative oversight during the emergency period.
