Human Rights Activist Conderm Attacks In Bokkos

todayApril 9, 2025

Background

Human Rights Activist, Omoyeni Sowore has decried the recent attacks in some parts of the country especially the most recent attacks in Bokkos, plateau state leaving over 60 people dead, several injured and others displaced in their ancestral home.

Sowore, who made the call in Abuja, lamented over the high level of insecurity in the country and called on security agencies expecially the Nigerian Police Force, as one the most powerful security agencies with the highest number of personnel to brace up to their constitutional mandate of ensuring adequate security for Nigerians .

Sowore emphasized that some of the repeated attacks focused on a particular community more than twice can be prevented through the Intelligent Gathering Department of the Force with constant collaboration with the affected communities.

The Nigerian Police must be properly positioned and sanitized in line with the provisions of the law to pave the way for national development. Hence, it must meet its constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and property of citizens.”

“As one of the powerful forces with the highest number of personnels, it needs to swing into action of deploying adequate personnel to the affected communities to wade into the issue as a matter of urgency.”

I am using this medium to also call on President Tinubu to wade into certain issues affecting the legal framework of the police force.

“We shall continue to fight and agitate for the well-being and improved welfare for personnels of the Force by ensuring that upon retirement every personnel gets 100% of their benefits and entitlements to avoid recent issues of retired policemen caught in illegal operations in Lagos”.

To this end, the police need to be properly structured to effectively partner other security agencies to help fight the various attacks in Bokkos, Benue, Katsina, and Borno, among others. Sowore added,’
