Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has held a virtual inaugural meeting with United States Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, signaling the start of a renewed diplomatic push under the new Trump administration.
Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister, announced in a statement that the two officials discussed a wide range of shared interests, including energy, technology, trade, security, human capital development, religious freedom, and immigration.
Minister Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with the US to advance mutual goals and strengthen bilateral relations. He highlighted Nigeria’s structured migration programmes—such as the Technical Aide Corps (TAC), which sends skilled Nigerian professionals abroad to support development—as a model for mutually beneficial migration solutions.
Landau, on his part, reiterated America’s commitment to a robust partnership with Nigeria, emphasizing the need to deepen commercial ties, bolster security cooperation, and expand diplomatic engagement.
The meeting marks the first high-level engagement between Nigeria and the US under the new American administration and lays the groundwork for continued collaboration on both regional and global issues.
