A $12 million mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant with a capacity of 7 million standard cubic feet per day is set to be built in Ajaokuta, aiming to revolutionize gas distribution across northern Nigeria.
The announcement was made in Abuja at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) and Arete LNG.
Michael Oluwagbemi, the PCNGI Project Coordinator, while speaking at the event, revealed that Arete LNG secured funding after demonstrating commitment through its substantial investment in the capital-intensive project.
He described the plant as both an immediate and sustainable solution to the nation’s energy needs.
“When fully operational, this project will not only boost industrialization but also address the energy demands of transportation and domestic use,” Oluwagbemi said.
Hajara Pitan,Arete LNG Project Director, said the plant is expected to be completed within 12 to 15 months. She stressed that the facility would significantly improve gas distribution and utilization across the country.
According to the stakeholders, equipment for the project is already in place, and the rollout will begin with three LNG plants per state as part of its expansion plan.
