To address the shortage of manpower in FCT hospitals, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has approved the employment of 34 Resident Doctors for a seven-year fixed-term Residency Training Program.
This marks the first batch of 60 Medical Residency Trainees across eight specialties in FCTA hospitals, as approved by the Minister.
The Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, in a statement, emphasized that the recruitment will enhance healthcare delivery in the FCT.
“This is the first time this initiative is being implemented outside the Health Management Board, providing more opportunities for doctors and strengthening the healthcare system in the FCT,” Olayinka stated.
Among the 34 newly employed doctors, five specialised in
Psychiatry, four in internal medicine, one in general surgery, one in anesthesiology, eight in family medicine, six in ophthalmology and nine in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Olayinka further noted that the FCTA Civil Service Commission will soon begin the recruitment process for the remaining 26 resident doctors towards
improving healthcare services and expanding medical training opportunities within the territory.
