Vaccination and early screening have been identified as vital measures in the prevention and control of tuberculosis.
Head of Department, Family Medicine, Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Doctor Adefunmilola Onifade stated this in Lokoja while speaking with Radio Nigeria on the World Tuberculosis day, 2025.
Doctor Onifade highlighted that early detection and proper management are crucial in effectively treating the disease.
She noted that tuberculosis remains a major global health challenge, with some individuals still hesitant to take the vaccine and urged the public to embrace vaccination as a preventive measure against the disease.
Dr. Onifade who explained that World Tuberculosis Day was aimed at creating more awareness about the infectious disease,called for intensified grassroots sensitization to enhance prevention and treatment efforts.
The doctor emphasised that with the right approach, tuberculosis can be effectively managed and eradicated.
She outlined some key symptoms of tuberculosis to include persistent coughing with blood-stained phlegm, fever accompanied by night sweats, and unexplained weight loss.
The theme for this year’s World Tuberculosis Day is, “Yes we can end TB; Commit, invest, deliver.”
