Akpabio Vs Natasha Not Southern Or Northern Issue, Adeyanju Cautions

todayMarch 15, 2025

Background

A human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has cautioned a coalition group that threatened to shut down the national assembly complex over the alleged sexual harassment case against the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Deji, who made the call at a media briefing in Abuja, said the move would further amplify the matter, which is already in court and make it look more of a southern and northern crisis.

He also said the ethics committee, ought to have listened to both parties involved while the Senate president should have recused himself from presiding over the matter as he wasn’t supposed to be a judge over his own matter for equity and fairness.

Adeyanju, however called on Senator Natasha to come up with substantive evidence on the alleged sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President to back up her claims since she feels the matter has not been given a fair hearing.

“I have advised Senator Natasha to go to court to seek redress over her suspension, because the matter is becoming more of a distraction and the man has denied the allegations so, let her prove her point “because who alleges must prove.” Adeyanju added.

“I believe that the matter has been over flogged at the public space, parties should go to court and resolve the matter so, we can focus more on sensitive issues like the tax reform bills that has been passed in the House of Representatives and awaiting a final passage at the Senate.

“Since the beginning of President Tinubu’s administration Akpabio and Natasha have not raised any concern over the anti – people policies ranging from subsidy removal, Over 300% increase in electricity tariff, recent increase in Telecom tariff and all the IMF world Bank loans among others’.

“I feel more attention be drawn to the plight of ordinary Nigerians who are not happy to pay an exhorbitant amount on electricity tariff which is almost competing with house rent in recent times and other irregularities that needs to be thoroughly checked for national development he said”.
