IWD: ROSOWA Seeks Increased Representation Of Women In Uniform

The Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association, ROSOWA has called for increased representation of women in uniform to promote equality, justice, and women’s rights.

The ROSOWA President, Dr Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed made the call in Abuja at the 5th edition of the Women in Uniform organised by the FCT Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day with the theme “Accelerate Action”.

Dr Nafisat Mohammed said that despite the progress made by women in uniform, they still face significant challenges, including sexism, harassment, and discrimination.

“As women in uniform we are no strangers to the challenges and adversity. We have faced obstacles, overcome barriers, and pushed beyond our limits to serve our communities, our country, and the world at large.”

She maintained that ROSOWA had been working tirelessly to promote road safety awareness, particularly among young people
and discouraging underage driving.

Dr Nafisat Mohammed, however, called on government, organisations, and individuals to take action to promote the representation of women in uniform, as it was essential in achieving a more just and equitable society.

A former senator, Mrs Abiodun Olujimi, in her remarks, highlighted the significant contributions women in uniform make to national security, development, and peacebuilding.

She emphasised the need for policies to support the advancement of women in uniform to protect them from discrimination and harassment.

According to her, providing opportunities for women in uniform to acquire new skills, pursue further education, and mentor others will help them excel in their careers and make a positive impact on society.

In her presentation, a retired Deputy Corps Marshal, Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor, urged women in uniform to strive for excellence and shatter the glass ceiling in their various care

Ewhrudjakpor emphasised that women have the potential to excel in their careers but must be willing to make sacrifices and balance their home and office responsibilities.

The retired DCM also urged women in uniform to be agents of change, support one another, and celebrate their successes, saying “a win for one woman is a win for all.”
