IWD: Maikalangu Pledges More Women Inclusion In Governance

Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu has promised to promote women’s participation in governance.

Maikalangu gave the assurance in a statement to mark the International Women’s Day in Abuja.

The council Boss maintained that gender equity would continue to be a priority of his administration in the years ahead.

“Our administration facilitated the appointment of many women in my cabinet, and most of the heads of departments presently in the council are women.”

“Apart from that, I have also appointed a female as Special Adviser for Women Affairs, Consultant on Development and ICT, SSA’s, SA’s, and protocols”.

He explained that the International Women’s Day Celebration, which started in 1911, is targeted at showcasing the economic, social and cultural achievements of the womenfolk world over.

“Despite the heights attained by women in education, medical sciences, sports entrepreneurship and leadership, women still face violence and discrimination in several spheres of life.”

“It is time for us to work hard to break down these barriers and ensure that all women, regardless of their background, have the chance to reach their full potential in our society”.
