The National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, has called on stakeholders in the electoral process to collaborate and ensure violence-free and fair elections across the country
Comrade Yahaya made this call at the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room and Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ Advocacy meeting in Abuja, which aimed to promote credible elections.

He announced plans to establish a committee to ensure justice for journalists attacked during elections.
Earlier, the convener of the forum, Yunusa Zakari-Yau, urged the government to ensure that political exposed individuals are not appointed to oversee the nation’s electoral umpire, thereby building public trust in the democratic process and ensuring fairness.

The meeting highlighted concerns such as political influence in media ownership, electoral malpractices, fake news, and undue influence on electoral bodies.
Panelists called for accountability from security agencies and urged journalists to intensify investigative reporting and collaborate with civil society.

The forum produced resolutions, including promoting voter education and fostering partnerships between the media and civil society to sustain democracy.
