NUJ FCT Mourns Former Auditor, Charles Ahamefula

Background

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is deeply saddened to announce the passing of a former Auditor and Treasurer, Chief Charles Enyaoha Ahamefula who passed away on Sunday, 16th February 2025, at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja .

Chief Ahamefula who served the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) with distinction before his retirement in 2014 was at various times a Controller News and Head, Igbo Translations Unit, Igbo and a Senior Reporter attached to the Federal Ministry of Transport.

From 2005 to 2009, he diligently held the positions of Auditor and Treasurer of the NUJ FCT Council, demonstrating unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in the union’s financial oversight.

He also played a prominent role in the recovery of the revoked NUJ Abuja Council’s property located at Ekukinam Street, Utako District.

A stalwart of the media industry, he was a firm advocate for press freedom and a mentor to aspiring journalists, imparting knowledge on the core principles and ethics of the profession.

Known for his excellence, dedication, and professionalism, Chief Ahamefula’s insightful reporting played a pivotal role in shaping national discourse and promoting unity and peace in Nigeria.

Late Ahamefula was born on the 10th of August, 1949, to the family of Ahamefula Ekeji of Umuoche, Obeama in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State.

He is survived by a wife, three children, and three grandchildren.

The NUJ FCT Council has lost a distinguished colleague whose contributions will remain a lasting legacy.

The council also extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
