FRSC Impounds 60 Vehicles In FCT For Number Plates Violation

todayFebruary 3, 2025

Background

No fewer than sixty vehicles were today impounded by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in the federal capital terrory, during the commencement of a nationwide Intervention Patrol on number plates violation.

Addressing news men in Abuja, the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Operations, Hyginus Omege said the special intervention Operation was aimed at tracking fake Number plates used by criminal elements for nefarious activities.

ACM Omeje said some diplomatic missions in the country had complained bitterly about their number plates being flaked, which poses security to their activities in Abuja and other major cities in the country

He assured that FRSC would get to the source and fish out those behind issuing fake number plates as the exercise will continue in all the major cities across the country.

According to him, some citizens have taken it upon themselves to use unauthorized number places not known by law.

Also speaking, the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Motor Vehicle Administration, Goodwin Omiko said the exercise became necessary as FRSC would no longer tolerate the use of unauthorized number plates which he said poses a threat to National Security.

According to him, Illegal number plate coverage, fake diplomatic number and expired number plate for Ex public officials are offences under this special intervention Patrol.

Mr Omiko warned those using these categories of number plates to remove them or face prosecution.

He assured that FRSC would not relent in carrying out its responsibility in bringing sanity to the highway.

The special intervention teams were stationed at three high volume traffic routes to carry out the exercise.
