The House of Representatives Committee on Defence has resolved to increase the budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Defence to sustain its successes in combating insecurity.

The decision was made after Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, defended the Ministry’s 2025 budget, stating that the allocated N50 billion was inadequate.

Matawalle appealed for an upward review, assuring that adequate funding would enable the ministry to address banditry within two months.

While moving a motion on the need to increase budgetary allocation for the Ministry, a member of the committee, Philip Agbese, commended the military’s efforts, particularly in the northwest and Benue State.

He praised the Minister and the military for their achievements, highlighting the importance of increased funding to support their operations.

Responding the Chairman of the Committee, Babajimi Benson emphasized the defence sector’s crucial role in addressing diverse threats to national peace and stability.

He noted the National Assembly’s consistent prioritization of the defence sector in the national budget, with increased allocations in recent years.

He stressed the need for prudent, transparent, and impactful utilization of the enhanced resources, ensuring that every naira is spent to strengthen the Armed Forces’ operational capacity and deliver tangible results.
