Speaker Wants Youths To Be Involved In Budget Processes

The House of Representatives Speaker, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, has called for youth participation in shaping the country’s 2025 budget, emphasizing the need for policies and programs that cater to their needs and aspirations.

Dr Abbas who made the call at a Youth Town Hall on the 2025 Budget at the National Assembly in Abuja stressed that youths play a vital role in driving national development and should be involved in the budget process.

Dr. Tajudeen who noted that young Nigerians should be empowered, nurtured, and motivated for leadership roles, should also be willing to take leadership responsibilities.

He emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment that allows youths potential to flourish.

The Speaker also recalled the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ Act, which lowered the age requirement for elective offices and encouraged political parties to mentor and support young aspirants.

Dr. Tajudeen further emphasized that political parties have a crucial role to play in identifying, nurturing, and empowering young people to assume leadership positions.

He stressed that the future of Nigeria’s democracy and the survival of its institutions depends on the active participation of young people in governance.

The Youth Town Hall on the 2025 Budget was the second in a series of engagements between the Speaker and Nigerian youths.

The event provided a platform for young people to share their ideas and perspectives on the budget and national development.
