todayDecember 16, 2024

Background

The Federal Government, through the Global Fund, is set to renovate 200 Primary Health Care Centres in twenty eight states across the Federation.

The Executive Secretary, Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Grant, Mr. Ibrahim Tajudeen, made this known at a media briefing on malaria in Abuja.

Mr. Tajudeen stated that the intervention would include the construction of a well-equipped staff quarters for doctors to ensure that primary health care centers operate 24 hours to address emergencies, including malaria cases.

Earlier, the National Coordinator Civil Society in Malaria Control, Mobilization and Nutrition, Mr. Ayo Ipinmoye emphasized the need for a special approach to address the scourge of malaria through advocacy and enlightenment, particularly during the yuletide season.

According to Ipinmoye, “the festive season is not only about a time for joy and celebration but also serves as a crucial opportunity to enhance awareness about significant health issues, particularly Malaria, which continues to affect many communities around the country, Malaria remains a persistent and formidable health challenge.”

He advocated further by calling all communities to become Malaria ambassadors.

“This means leading by example, taking ownership of personal and community health, and actively participating in Malaria prevention activities.”

“Communities can educate their neighbours about the importance of using insecticide-treated nets, and for local solutions to control the mosquito population.”

Also, the Head of Advocacy, Communication, and Social Mobilization at the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Mr. Raphael Onyilo, who urged the media to actively support the dissemination of messages aimed at educating the public, noted that this would complement government’s efforts to achieve the global target of eliminating malaria by 2030.
