Service Delivery : N-HYPPADEC To Develop Database For Catchment Areas

The National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development (N-HYPPADEC) is set to develop a robust database that will capture critical information on population, infrastructure, and socio-economic indicators across its catchment states.

The Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, stated this at the graduation and presentation of starter packs to 1,011 youths in Kebbi State.

Sadiq-Yelwa stressed that each of the graduates represents transformation and hope in the technology sector, which is critical for Nigeria’s digital economy.

“Today in Kebbi State, we celebrate the successful training of 1,011 youths – each representing a story of transformation and hope. In the technology sector, which is crucial for our digital economy, we have trained 343 youths, 162 in Computer Appreciation, and 181 in Website Design. This digital skills acquisition is particularly vital as we position our youths to compete in the global digital market place”

“The fashion and beauty industry, a sector with immense potential for quick returns and economic independence, now has 258 new skilled entrepreneurs in Kebbi State, 185 in Fashion Design and Tailoring, 60 in Cosmetology and 13 in Bag and Shoe Making. These skills offer immediate pathways to economic self-reliance”.

“Understanding the critical role of Agriculture in our economic diversification efforts, we have equipped 318 youths with agricultural and food service skills, 92 in Fish Farming, 14 in Irrigation Farming, 125 in Poultry Farming and 87 in Catering Services”.

“This agricultural focus aligns perfectly well with the food security goals of the current administration, both at the State and Federal levels. It also aligns with the urgent need for youth participation in the agricultural value chain, Alhaji Yelwa stressed.”

“In the technical and construction trades, 70 youths have been trained across various specialisations including electrical installation, plumbing, furniture making, and painting. Additionally, 22 youths have been equipped with skills in mechanics, entertainment and printing, the sectors that remain firm and adaptive even in challenging economic times, ” he added.

He added that the commission has gone beyond mere skills acquisition as each beneficiary received monthly stipends throughout their training period.

“We provide them with starter packs, which are essential tools to commence their entrepreneurial journeys. This comprehensive approach reflects our understanding that in today’s economic climate, which necessitates that youth empowerment must be holistic and sustainable, ”

Sadiq-Yelwa appreciated the federal government for signing the 2023 Electricity Act into law, saying it has expanded the the mandate of the commission to
reach out to more communities and impact more lives.

“We are deeply grateful for the emphatic focus of the administration creation. The 2023 Electricity Act, signed into law by Mr. President has expanded our mandate to reach out to more communities and impact on more lives”.

He, also appreciated the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasiru Idris, traditional authorities, and community stakeholders for their commitment to actualizing the commission’s goal.
