todayDecember 11, 2024

Background

In a bid to promote awareness on ethical values and national development, the National Orientation Agency (NOA)has flagged off nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at addressing five critical issues that are central to the nation’s well being, unity and development.

At the Press briefing in Abuja, the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Isa Onilu represented by the Director NOA FCT Directorate, Mrs Agbanusi Ijeoma who noted that the campaign aims at fostering a more informed, secured and ethical society, called for collective action by all Nigerians especially the stakeholders to enable it surmount the challenges being experienced in the country presently.

While highlighting on the five key issues, especially the Tax reform bills, Mrs Agbanusi said the reforms are designed to ease the burden on hardworking Nigerians towards ensuring that everyone contributes fairly as well as create a tax system that works for all and funds developmental projects.

“The tax reform bills are four different bills that seek to bring everything about taxation and administration of tax in Nigeria under four different pieces of legislation. The bills are as follows. The Nigeria Tax Bill,The Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, The Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, The Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.”

“These reforms will benefit everyone, no more double taxes as the government is working to stop different levels of authority from taxing people for the same thing.”

“Those earning very little will also pay little or no taxes, helping them manage their finances better”.

“New digital systems are being introduced too to make tax payments faster, and more accountable.”

“Tax revenue will be used to improve essential public services like schools, hospitals, and infrastructure, ensuring citizens see the benefits of their contributions Mrs Agbanusi added”.

Also speaking, the deputy director, political civic ethics & values of NOA,Mrs Rhoda Sadus who rolled out other measures by NOA in effective actualization of the campaign objectives, reiterated the commitment of NOA in building a healthier, safer and more ethical Nigeria.

“The government is doing its part, but no government can succeed alone. Addressing these five key areas requires collaboration from all citizens, stakeholders, and institutions. Together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more ethical Nigeria.”

“Let us commit ourselves to these ideals and work tirelessly to make them a reality for our beloved nation.”

The five critical issues are: World HIV Day, Security Awareness, Addressing the get rich quick syndrome, World human rights day and the Tax reform bills.
