Kogi Gov’s Wife Solicits All-inclusive Campaign To End GBV

todayDecember 8, 2024

Background

The Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo has called for an all-inclusive campaign to eliminate Gender-Based Violence, GBV, from society.

The Governor’s Wife made the call in Lokoja at a program to mark this year’s International Day for the elimination of violence against women.

Mrs. Ododo lamented that violence against women and girls had eaten deep into the fabric of the society, hence the need for all hands to be on deck to fight the scourge.

She explained that the aim of the program was to enlighten women in the state on the onerous task and charge them to carry the campaign to the grassroots.

The governor’s wife maintained that it was important for everyone in Kogi State and Nigeria to embrace the essence of the campaign until the country was free of the menace.

Hajia Sefinat who applauded wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of women in the Country, disclosed that her door is open for partnership and support for women and girls in the State.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fatima Momoh, called on government at all levels to create an environment where women are free from all sorts of violence and marginalization.

In their lectures, Mrs Juliana Omale and Mrs Oluwakemi Omeiza, from the State Ministry of Justice, urged women to educate themselves, recognize Gender-Based Violence and speak up when violated.

They also appealed to the wife of the governor to provide shelter and empowerment for victims of GBV in the state in order to give them a sense of belonging.
