Scientific Innovations Will Promote Nat’l Development-Experts

The federal government has been urged to explore critical scientific innovative strategies for national development.

Guests on Politics Today, a Kapital FM Current Affairs Program made the call while speaking on the “Role of Basic moral Civic Knowledge and Scientific Innovations in Nation Building as well as Governance” in Abuja.

One of the guests, the Secretary General, African Academy of Science, Prof Friday Okonofua, was therefore of the opinion that harnessing indigenous knowledge and inculcating patriotism among the younger generation will go a long way in promoting creativity.

“Innovation means creativity in action, and Nigerians are innovative in nature, hence we need to move ideas to action, innovation is borne out of experience, it is doing things differently in the positive direction for public good”.

Also speaking, A fellow of the African Academy of Science and Professor of Microbiology, Prof Anthony Okoh who stressed the need for effective delivery of government responsibilities to the society appealed for enabling environment from government at all levels to encourage local production of goods and services to enhance nation building.

“There has to be a mechanism to guide and regulate such potential, people are coming up with innovation without control and regulation, it is the responsibility of government to provide enabling environment as well as encourage those local people that drive the production of creativity in the country”.

Callers on the program stressed the need for effective utilization of talents and the capacity of Nigerians in diaspora to enhance national development.
