The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged to bring lasting peace to Nigeria if confirmed as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.
Major General Oluyede, who made the pledge when he appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Defence and Army also emphasized the need for a united effort from all Nigerians to address the country’s security challenges.
The General also called for strong bilateral and multilateral alliances with neighboring countries, as well as deep collaboration and joint efforts by the services and other security agencies.
Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, who noted that Nigeria continues to face evolving security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and cyber threats, emphasized the need for innovative and adaptive strategies to address these threats.
The House Committee on Defence will review the outcome of the screening exercise and present its report to the House during plenary on Thursday.
Major General Oluyede, who has served in the Nigerian Army for over 30 years, was appointed acting Chief of Army Staff following the death of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
He has held various positions, including Commander of the Infantry Corps and the 27 Task Force Brigade.
