The Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas says the House of Representatives will work to enact laws that will significantly reduce incidents of violence against women, children, and girls.
Abbas made the declaration in Abuja when he led over 1000 participants, including federal lawmakers, women from all works of life and youth groups.
on a march Against Gender-based Violence, started from the National Assembly complex to the Nigeria Police Force headquarters.
Addressing the crowd at the National Assembly entrance, the Speaker who decried the rate of violence against women and Girls in Nigeria also said the house will play an active role in the next national action plan against violence against women.
Thereafter, the Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Kafilat Ogbara, led the delegation to the Force Headquarters, where she presented the petition on behalf of the House, demanding thorough investigation into cases of violence against women and girls.
Receiving the petition, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun assured that all cases of violence will be pursued to a logical conclusion.
