The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC says it will continue to collaborate and provide information for security agencies in tackling insecurity in Sahel region and Nigeria.
According to the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed who emphasised the critical link between road safety and security, roads were the primary targets for insecurity.
Mallam Mohammed stated this in Abuja during the News Agency Of Nigeria’s 1st Annual International Lecture with the theme, “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges – Genesis, Impacts and Options”.
He maintained that security is critical to road safety as FRSC personnel are always on the road where banditry and kidnappings are being perpetrated.
“The road gives access to the bandits and the non state actors to be able to travel to wherever they want to go and perpetrate their heinous act and therefore we are a key stakeholder”.
While highlighting the Corps’ strategic position in preventing and responding to security threats, citing its extensive network of patrol teams and intelligence gathering capabilities, the FRSC Corps Marshal said the Corps was enjoying a harmonious relationship with other agencies by promptly providing necessary security information and data whenever requested.
“We shall continue to be able to provide the needed data, the needed information that we can be able and we believe the country can be able to address these security challenges”.
Speaking further on the ember months and its attendant fatalities, the FRSC Corps Marshal said that Corps would intensify passengers’ education and sensitisation to promote safe road practices.
According to him, passengers often bear the brunt of crashes, emphasising the need for collective responsibility.
“We are strategising for the ember months and our approach this time will be on the commuters so that they can speak out against reckless driving.”
