16 private schools are set to take part in the maiden edition of the Yoshi Abuja Private Schools Football Tournament billed to kick off from September 14, 2024. 

The football tournament which sees primary, junior secondary & senior secondary schools from Nigeria’s Capital city, Abuja, will hold at the Astro Turf arena.

Ahmed Geidam, of Yorshi International football Academy, UAE, launched the tournament to tap into the region’s love for football and enhance player development in the FCT.

He believes in identifying and nurturing young talents.

Geidam who is also a coach in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, recognized the limited competitive opportunities available to local players and believes the urgent need for a platform that would challenge and nurture talent at all levels from the schooling system.

Also speaking on the 2024 Yoshi football tournament, Coach Marcello Anyanwu coach of Gulf United, and Partner of Yorshi International Football Academy, said the tournament is more about participation than winning as he urged for sports like attitude from all participant.

“It’s not all about winning its all about participation.

We have seen so many occasions were by the coaches will be fighting with the officials, it’s not allowed. And the kids are just like our kids so lets be role models to them”

The former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presidential candidate and current Nigeria National League (NNL) ambassador stated that he had put everything else aside to ensure the success of the tournament.

Yoshi Abuja Private Schools Football Tournament will kick off with the primary school games from 14th – 20th, while the secondary school games while the secondary school matches will run from 21st to 28th all in September.
