The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chapter has sought partnership with Helpline Foundation towards championing the course of rural and urban women in the territory.

The Chairperson of NAWOJ, FCT Chapter, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang made the call when she led her Executive members on a working visit to the Founder, Helpline Foundation, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, in Abuja.

She advocated better welfare for female journalists and sought to strengthen ties with the Foundation in promoting Gender Equality, (GE) Empowerment of women as well as join hands in the fight against GBV, particularly, as it relates to women and girls.

Comrade Ikpang also reiterated the readiness of NAWOJ FCT Chapter in amplifying the policies and programmes of government within the FCT agencies aimed at making life better for the citizens.

She expressed gratitude to Dr. Ahmadu for her humanitarian efforts in alleviating the plight of vulnerable children and widows, and noted that NAWOJ has also benefitted from the gesture, hence, the decision to deepen the relationship.

She solicited for slots for the Zambia 2024 African women conference, and asked that NAWOJ be considered for palliatives when available.

“Today, we are not just meeting to discuss collaboration; we are coming together to align our visions, to combine our resources, and to leverage our strengths in a united front against gender discrimination, violence, and inequality”.

“Our goal is to create an environment where every woman and girl can live free from fear, free from want, and with the opportunity to achieve her full potential”.

“Gender equality is not merely women’s issue; it is a human rights issue.NAWOJ FCT has long been at the forefront of advocating for the rights, well-being and empowerment of women in Nigeria”.

“The present exco in FCT is ever ready and determined to do more in uplifting the lives of the vulnerable in the FCT especially women and girls even at the remotest part of communities to amplify the policies and programmes of government and its various sub units in FCT.

“Just last Friday we were in Wumba Village in the FCT for our Breastfeeding Programme which did not only address exclusive breastfeeding but other health challenges that affects women and girls”.Ikpang said.

Responding, the Founder Helpline Foundation, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu attested that NAWOJians are strategic parners and would not hesitate to support the Association in any way possible.

Dr Ahmadu encouraged FCT NAWOJ to also partner with the Traditional Rulers’ Wives Association to easily penetrate difficult terrains at the grassroots, to ensure that no woman is left behind.

Like I said, support for NAWOJ is non-negotiable; we will put everything together to ensure that your tenure is very, very successful and impactful”.

“We are building a profile to see how we can get funds from donor agencies to enable us to work with like-minded organizations. Once that is done, NAWOJ will originally be our first point of call.” Dr Ahmadu assured.

Highpoint of the event was the decoration of Dr Jumai Ahmadu as FCT NAWOJ Matron, Mentor and Adviser.
