Inclusive Storytelling Crucial To Devt Of Any Society- GSAI

A civil society group, the Gender Strategy Advancement International, GSAI, says the role of inclusive storytelling in driving social and political progress is crucial to the development of any society.

Executive Director, GSAI, Adaora Sydney stated this at the Story Circle Exhibition in Abuja.

She explained that inclusive storytelling has the power to humanize complex issues, inspire action, and bring meaningful change in all aspects of life .

According to her, the power of inclusive storytelling is at the center of investigative journalism.

She also stressed that one of the most potent aspects of storytelling in journalism is the ability to humanize complex issues.

In a remark,
Executive Director of the Wole Soyinka Centre For Investigative Journalism, WSCIJ, Motunrayo Alake, represented by Kimberly Nwachukwu, said the center’s commitment is to promote investigative journalism, transparency, and accountability.

Alake, who stressed that women issues are societal, added that the project has supported about 634 stories, out of which 66 focuses on women and girls.

On his part, Kole Shettima, Executive Director of the MacArthur Foundation, noted that the importance of supporting investigative journalism is for accountability to bring about change for all.

He said that the foundation will focus on some key areas like strengthening the economic justice system, bringing about behavioural change, supporting civil society groups, and investigative journalism.

Also speaking, the UK Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever, who explained that women’s voices are crucial in all aspects of public life, also called for more women participation in politics, expressing concern over the low representation of women in Nigeria’s Senate and House of Representatives.

The exhibition showcased stories from journalists under the GENDER AGENDA Collaborative Media Project, supported by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and the MacArthur Foundation.
