Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has been recognized for his exceptional leadership skills and quality representation in the National Assembly and Nigeria as a whole.
Notably, he received the prestigious Michael Okpara Leadership Award, the 2024 Premier’s Prize, at a ceremony held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The award also acknowledges his “Quality Representation and Leadership in the Nigerian Parliament,” underscoring his commitment to public service.
In addition to this recognition, Kalu’s achievements include sponsoring the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.and launching the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), a social intervention mechanism to address insecurity and sociological challenges in the region.
In response to this honor, Kalu expressed his gratitude, stating that it motivates him to do more for the people of the southeast and Nigeria.
The Michael Okpara Leadership Award is named after the former Premier of the Eastern Region of Nigeria, Dr. Michael Okpara, who served from 1959 to 1966.
