18th NRCS International Youth Camp Commences

The 18th International Youth Camp of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, has commenced at the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, training School in Agbor, Delta State.

Delta State Governor, Elder Sherriff Oborevwori, who officially declared the camp opened, emphasized his administration’s commitment to empowering the next generation of humanitarians.

Represented by Commissioner for Youth Development, Harry Trakiriowei, the Governor highlighted initiatives like reduced university fees and opportunities in formal and informal sectors, demonstrating the government’s dedication to youth development.

In a statement by the NRSC Coordinator, Communications and Advocacy, Chima Nwankwo, National President of the Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, commends the enthusiastic youth participants, acknowledging their vital role in shaping Nigeria’s humanitarian future.

Prince Adeaga emphasized the youth’s crucial role in driving positive change and the NRCS’s commitment to the IFRC’s Unified Plan 2024, focusing on Empowerment, Collaboration, Sustainability, and Inclusivity.

He encouraged the youths to embrace their potential, become active agents of change, and drive sustainable and inclusive development in their communities and beyond.

The NRCS National President who thanked the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, for hosting the camp, welcomed international delegates, Seychelles, Mozambique, Uganda and Kenyan Red Cross Societies, encouraging them to share their experiences of Nigerian hospitality upon returning home.

He also praised their commitment to the global humanitarian movement.

The President also acknowledged the support from NRCS branches across Nigeria, with participants travelling from distant states like Zamfara, Borno, Rivers, Lagos, and Kano.

“Special thanks to
National Youth Adviser, Mr. Sidney Osawaru, for his tireless efforts in organizing the camp to international standards.”

In his remarks, Commandant of the FRSC Training School, Agbor, Oludare Ogunjobi, noted the long-standing partnership between the Red Cross and FRSC, forged through shared values and a commitment to serving humanity.

He highlighted the significance of their collaboration, emphasizing unity in driving positive change.
