The House of Representatives has dissolved the joint committee investigating the importation of adulterated petroleum products and other infractions in the oil and gas sector.

In a statement signed by House Spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akintunde Rotimi, the House stated that a new special ad-hoc committee will be constituted to take over the investigation.

According to the Statement the new committee will have the same mandate as the dissolved joint committee, which includes investigating the importation of adulterated petroleum products, the non-availability of crude oil for domestic refineries, and other critical energy security issues.

It emphasizes that the new committee will consist of members selected for their expertise, competence, and integrity to ensure an independent and effective investigation.

The Statement says the house remains committed to addressing these vital issues and ensuring thorough oversight, with further details on the new committee’s operations to be provided in due course.
