The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC has called on Nigerians to call off the ongoing national protests and give the government a chance to attend to their demands.
The Leadership of NIREC, the President General, Nigeria Supreme Council For Islamic Affairs Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and Most Reverend Daniel Okoh, President Christian Association of Nigeria in a Joint Statement in Abuja expressed regret that despite pleas from all quarters the protest that started peacefully became violent.
The NIREC leadership acknowledged that there is hunger and hardship in the country but civil unrest is not the solution as it will aggravate the situation.
According to the two religious leaders, in just one day, lives and property were destroyed.
They called on security agencies to be more professional in the discharge of their duties.
NIREC, however, stressed the need for government to expedite action towards meeting the yearnings and needs of the citizens.
