Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has advised his constituents in Abia and the people of the South East geopolitical zone not to join the planned nationwide protest, describing it as counter-productive.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu stated that the deputy speaker gave the advise, while meeting with the stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 13 electoral wards of Bende Federal Constituency, he represents in the National Assembly

Kalu emphasized that the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is addressing the challenges of the region, citing the assent given to the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill as evidence of the President’s care for the people.

The deputy speaker urged the people to be patient with the government, stressing that it has put in place positive policies and measures that will ameliorate their problems.

He asked his constituents to take the message to all parts of the region.

Kalu also appealed to leaders across all levels of government to show benevolence to the people, especially during this time of dire need.

He emphasized the importance of national unity, cohesion, and integration.

The deputy speaker cautioned those behind the protest to consider the consequences of their actions, advising them to use lobbying and negotiation to resolve conflicts instead of violence and crisis.
